ChuangTzuHello Everyone,  I have spent a better part of the evening chatting with golinux and he asked that I post a thread/review from the forum: https://dev1galaxy.org/viewtopic.php?id=216203:29

golinuxSome discussion of Hetzner on d1g resulted in this detailed post on how to install Devuan on their servers.  https://dev1galaxy.org/viewtopic.php?pid=10146#p1014617:09
golinuxIrrwahn: ^^^17:09
golinuxHopefully the will either add or switch out to the ASCII iso.17:10
golinuxSo I guess I can add Hetzner to the list of services on the website?17:11
golinuxjaromil: ^^^17:11
Irrwahngolinux: That's just install via some ISO image. That's not the same as an officially supported install image, but more like "bring your own OS". And it will only work for VMs, not dedicated machines, unless you rent a KVM + virtual drive console.17:45
IrrwahnBy this metric virtually any old hosting company in existence can be said to have a "Install Devuan" option.17:46
golinuxIrrwahn: Good point.  Could you possibly add it to the thread or should I c/p your comments from here?17:49
Irrwahngolinux: If you feel it's important to add to thread please go ahead and copy. My primary concern was more about not making inaccurate claims in official announcements.17:51
IrrwahnBTW, the only official OS install images at Hetzner are: Debian, Ubuntu, CentOS, openSUSE; and additionally Arch Linux without support17:53
golinuxIsn't that more or less what OpenNebula does and we're supporting them?17:53
golinuxDevuan images are in their Marketplace.17:54
IrrwahnI did not have a thorough look at ON yet, so cannot comment off hand.17:54
golinuxYou are right that we need to be careful about what we put in official communications.17:56
IrrwahnRe Hetzner: We /could/ probably advertise that an (albeit outdated) ISO image is available there through the custom installation option.17:56
golinuxdevuser is going to suggest they update or add the ASCII image.17:58
golinuxWill take some time to get an answer on that.17:58
IrrwahnHe could probably do that himself. ISTR that basically any customer can deposit any ISO (that meets some criteria) at their store.17:58
golinuxHetzner is a big company so might be useful to acknowledge that they recognize us.17:59
Irrwahn(But I'm not 100% sure about that, I'D have to check, but that's not possible for me right now.)17:59
golinuxNo worries.  Your feedback, as always, is useful.18:00
IrrwahnActually, I wouldn't be too sure that anyone at Hetzner knows anything about Devuan, beyond personal interest.18:01
golinuxWell, either devuser will sort it or not.18:02
IrrwahnOverall, the important takeaway is: When you run Devuan on a Hetzner machine, you do so at your own devise and own risk, no support.18:04
IrrwahnAnd that's different from their "official" OS choces.18:04
golinuxUnderstood18:05
golinuxAnd thanks.  I added your comments to that thread.18:08
IrrwahnYou are very welcome, glad I could be of any help. :)18:08
golinuxYou are a real keeper, Irrwahn.  :)18:15
IrrwahnOh, one small additional note: Hetzner maintains repository mirrors for the officially supported OSes (at the very least that's true for Debian), thus installation and upgrade traffic does not add to the statistics, as it is considered internal traffic free of charge.18:24
golinuxIrrwahn: FYI: https://dev1galaxy.org/viewtopic.php?pid=10154#p1015418:43
gnu_srsKatolaZ: Did you ever succeed to build xfce4-session for ascii*?23:06
KatolaZgnu_srs: don't remember23:06
KatolaZsorry23:06
KatolaZI haven't have much time for devuan since ASCII release23:07
golinuxgnu_srs: It looks like that pkg was last built a month ago.  You can check here: https://ci.devuan.org/23:31
