golinuxUse it if you must but I'll still use slim.00:00
golinuxI don't know that I have another desktop in me anyway00:01
golinuxBy the time beowulf goes EOL, I'll be well into my 80s (if I last that long) so chimaera might not be a concern for me personally.00:02
fsmithredI think I need to not apply the patch. The same patch was not applied in the darkpurpy theme.00:11
golinuxCenturion_Dan: The Clearlooks-Phenix theme is now maintained but a Debian team not https://github.com/jpfleury/clearlooks-phenix/ afaik00:11
fsmithredno, that's the old repo00:12
masongolinux: You should be able to use just about any theming you want with LightDM.00:12
fsmithredit's at salsa now00:12
masongolinux: I'd be happy to look at some point. I've had to muck with it sporadically.00:12
Centurion_Dangolinux: There is nothing new since the last release in that github location in Debian anyway.00:12
masongolinux: Heading off to dinner now, but if you can email me (or the dev list) details of the goal, I'd be happy to suggest possible solutions.00:13
Centurion_Danwhat's in salsa almost certainly came from there.00:13
masonAlso, I'd look at the task defaults as distinct from what you yourself run. I never run anything I'd expect anyone else to use.00:13
Centurion_DanAnyway,  I've got to go now.00:13
masonbbiab00:14
Centurion_Dano/00:14
golinuxmason: The theme is integrated from grub to the desktop including wallpaper, icons and WM theme.00:31
golinuxThere is already an option for lightdm for beowulf.  It is just very pedestrian and uninteresting.00:32
golinuxCenturion_Dan: There is no change in the code but the version number in salsa is different00:35
golinuxmason:  The defaults ARE what I run because it has been my task to put it together for 3 releases.00:36
golinuxI have no interest in creating a default theme that I do not personally use.00:37
golinuxThe current desktop was a wonderful collaboration between hellekin and myself.  IMO it defines Devuan.00:40
golinuxI cannot conceive of Devuan without it.00:40
plasma41o/01:24
masongolinux: Hrm. Well. I'll need to get more context generally, but I'll be happy to help with this as much as I can.01:39
masonI tend not to use a desktop environment as such, which adds to my bitterness when I consider Gnome driving systemd adoption.01:40
free_speechisn't it possible to backport the new features of more recent gnome-versions back to the gnome.version used in debian wheezy?01:51
free_speechdon't get me wrong, I'm not a gnome user - but wouldn't that be possible though?01:52
masonfree_speech: They're vastly different codebases at this point.02:02
masonEntirely different approaches.02:02
golinuxThen there's this that even affects xfce: https://igurublog.wordpress.com/2012/11/05/gnome-et-al-rotting-in-threes/02:05
LeePenHi. I think I have worked out why those debian 0.105-25 libpolikt-{backend,gobject} packages are getting through: when I reworked the policykit packages I made Devuan's versions of those virtual. We only have libpolikt-{backend,gobject}-{elogind,consolekit} which both provide libpolikt-{backend,gobject}. So can we block debian's packages in amprolla?08:16
LeePenIf not, I will have to revert that change.08:16
LeePenThis is also the cause of José's difficulties migrating buster→beowulf we were discussing on the lists a few days ago.08:17
ServiceRobotoi lads11:52
ServiceRobotI wrote up a 3 page essay on the init dilemma, and possible solutions. where should I post it on the forum?11:53
ServiceRobotbah, I'll just post it to the one I think is appropriate11:54
ServiceRobotalright, posted to the forum. I'm going to bed11:57

masonCenturion_Dan: Congrats in advance!22:07
Evilhamrrq: I have silly news from the mriror front https://lists.dyne.org/lurker/message/20190913.135358.df3385db.en.html22:11
Evilhambasically, the monitoring front22:11
rrqgreat. green is good :)22:14
Evilhamyeah22:16
Evilhamit should turn yellow when TLS certs are about to expire22:16
Evilhamand red when something is dead22:16
Evilham(except for the mriror network, where "somethign" is dead means yellow unless it's way too many of them that are dead, in which case it is red)22:17
golinuxping22:28
golinuxVictory!22:28
golinuxg4sra emailed this suggestion for that problem sentence:22:28
golinux"Register your email to receive important announcements and release news."22:28
golinuxand I switched it up a bit to:22:28
golinux"Register your email to receive release announcements and important news."22:28
golinuxbecause releases are the most important thing that we do.  :)22:29
Evilhamyay!22:29
Evilhamreads good to me22:29
golinuxIt really does.22:30
golinuxNow on to test fsr's new desktop stuff in ceres.  I think I awake enough to do that now.22:31
golinuxI'm . . . maybe not quite awake22:31
Centurion_DanEvilham: that looks great.  I'll try to get an NZ mirror up next week.23:35
Centurion_DanWe should start looking into geolocation mirrors too....23:35
Evilhamthat's easy23:39
Evilhamrequires control over DNS though23:39
