adam_free2air | hi! interested in getting in contact with those that build the devuan distribution to further understand how PXE and netboot options across amd64 & arm architecture can enabled. any pointers? AdThanksVance! | 09:54 |
---|---|---|
adam_free2air | Debian Buster has http://ftp.debian.org/debian/dists/buster/main/installer-amd64/current/images/netboot/ and http://ftp.debian.org/debian/dists/buster/main/installer-arm64/current/images/netboot/ | 10:04 |
adam_free2air | my aim is to netboot devuan with preseed configurations | 10:08 |
adam_free2air | i came across debian-> ascii migration page https://devuan.org/os/documentation/dev1fanboy/migrate-to-ascii but it seems ugly to me to network boot Debian then script a migration to Devuan %^} | 10:14 |
Evilham | adam_free2air: there shouldn't be a need for that and you should be able to use a devuan image, the equivalent to those you mentioned though aren't there ATM but they should be there "soon (tm)" | 10:20 |
Evilham | adam_free2air: if you want to do so, you can use these test ISOs, which have been prepared by rrq: https://borta.rrq.id.au/ | 10:21 |
Evilham | since the official release images will come out of pretty much that same process, it'd be useful to have feedback if you use them | 10:22 |
Evilham | aka: do they work? do they not? is anything messed up? what exactly? | 10:22 |
Evilham | so, if what you are doing right now is just estimating how/if you can use devuan, I'd recommend going with those ISOs, in a short-term future though we should have the netboot images back up there | 10:24 |
LeePen | Evilham adam_free2air: Actually our netboot images are now done | 10:31 |
Evilham | LeePen: took a quick look and didn't see 'em >.< and I was very sure they were done | 10:32 |
Evilham | mind posting a link? | 10:32 |
LeePen | https://pkgmaster.devuan.org/devuan/dists/beowulf/main/installer-${ARCH}/current/images/netboot/ | 10:32 |
adam_free2air | @LeePen oh! thanks! that's great!!! let me test drive & get back with results! :-) | 10:33 |
* Evilham is confused as to why navigating through the repo didn't work | 10:35 | |
Evilham | but oh well, that's great, thank you | 10:35 |
LeePen | Evilham: Were you looking in merged? | 10:37 |
adam_free2air | @Evilham thanks also. will check the ISO image. Quick hack using foreman to create a devuan dist copied from a debian OS definition and using https://pkgmaster.devuan.org/devuan as installation root seems to fail at the preseeding, manually prompting for keyboard language (INFO: Falling back to the package description for britty-udeb) , then borks on choose-mirror complaining (WARNING ***: mirror does not support the specified | 11:05 |
adam_free2air | release (ascii)) | 11:05 |
adam_free2air | but need to debug that further ... | 11:06 |
adam_free2air | foreman is both a beautiful but ugly and delicate beast. | 11:13 |
Evilham | LeePen: my bad, I was checking debian-installer under main and was totally oblivious of installer-${ARCH} so it was shouting at my face all the time | 11:14 |
* Evilham is not in the best state atm | 11:14 | |
bgstack15 | I use qemu, kvm, and virtinstall to do netinst+preseed of devuan straight into Ceres. A one-liner installs the instance. I don't do netboot, but maybe some of my stuff can help. I remember the d-i options for all the little things like keyboard and so on took a bunch of tries. | 14:05 |
bgstack15 | https://paste.debian.net/1131229 | 14:07 |
adam_free2air | @bgstack15 I have a similar test network, only using Virtual Machine Manager front end, plus using foreman as a front end to generate netinst and preseed details. Your setup could help me debug the boot configs. Could you share your setup details somehow? | 16:36 |
adam_free2air | it would help me sanity check the generated d-i options and rewrite templates to correct. | 16:37 |
adam_free2air | @bgstack15 thanks. i see you shared your preseed1.txt | 16:44 |
golinux | It's meet time. Come on down . . . | 21:39 |
jkister | since there's no traction on main, i have a binary that wants cxxabi 1.3.11 but my updated devuan seems to only provide 1.3 through 1.3.10. is there some apt repo or dpkg that i can install to handle that ? i looked at upgrading the libstdc but dont see one available and the /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libstdc++.so.6 is all i see | 22:04 |
bgstack15 | Which release are you on? I'm on Devuan ceres whose libstdc++.so.6 provides up to CXXABI_1.3.12. Using libc6:amd64_2.29-10 | 22:10 |
bgstack15 | So I use virtinstall to deploy a VM and install with preseed from a netinst iso file. I only got it to work with an old asset: devuan_ascii_2.0.0-beta_amd64_DVD.iso. I get an error when I use devuan_ascii_2.1_amd64_netinst.iso | 23:14 |
bgstack15 | [Thu, 20 Feb 2020 18:12:48 virt-install 10778] ERROR (cli:318) Could not find an installable distribution at '/mnt/public/Support/SetupsBig/Linux/devuan_ascii_2.1_amd64_netinst.iso': The URL could not be accessed, maybe you mistyped? | 23:16 |
bgstack15 | The location must be the root directory of an install tree. | 23:16 |
bgstack15 | See virt-install man page for various distro examples. | 23:16 |
