Digithow does one add an issue item on the webware here ?  or is that done elsewhere?  oh, i see the instructions now, here  ... sleepy when started, ima fall asleep on the keyboard.  <-- i did.07:06
Digitother issue/question i have... can i just apt remove pulseaudio and apt install alsa?  or will that break things?07:06
* Digit opts to follow
* Digit waits to watch the rest of his playlist before issuing: something like sudo killall pulseaudio ;and sudo strat debian apt-get purge pulseaudio pulseaudio-utils gstreamer0.10-pulseaudio libpulse-browse0 paman pavumeter pavucontrol ;and sudo mv /etc/asound.conf /etc/asound.conf.bak ;and rm ~/.pulse-cookie ;and rm -r ~/.pulse ;and sudo strat debian apt-get install alsa alsa-utils # to play it safe07:18
gnarfaceDigit: alsa is a kernel component so the answer is yes but all you should have to do is remove pulseaudio.  you should have already had all the relevant packages, but if for some reason you don't, make sure you have at least the subset of these that appears in your current version's repos: alsa-base alsa-oss alsa-tools alsa-utils07:24
gnarface(if you recently ran "apt-get update" then the dependencies should sort themselves automatically, just don't forget to "apt-get --purge autoremove" when you're done07:25
Digitthanks.  :)07:45
agrisqas-mixer is a good volume management applet for xfce and alsa08:35
agrisif you purge pulseaudio08:35
agriswhich I highly reccomend too08:35
agrisI apt-get purge pulseaudio after I had my headphones blow out my eardrums too many times08:35
masonSo, FWIW, the ASCII -> Beowulf upgrade I tried in a clean VM previously seems to have just worked this time around. One difference was I nuked elogind before the upgrade attempt. I'll have to try it again without doing that and see if it snaps. If it doesn't, then either it was gremlins the first time, or something's been fixed.23:59
