XenguyTrip report:  was able to access the dark side on Devuan, and install VSCode from the M$ apt repo.  Went off without a hitch (so far).  Used the instruction on this page: https://linuxize.com/post/how-to-install-visual-studio-code-on-debian-10/00:55
XenguyPython support, and Vim emulation, are a couple of clicks away00:56
XenguyThis is on Beowulf00:57
tuxd3vXenguy, you are surfing on the dark side.. :)01:00
XenguyOh yeah, don't I know it ; -)01:01
XenguyIt's for a training course, else I wouldn't be here01:01
tuxd3v:)01:01
tuxd3vEnjoy your stay01:02
XenguyReal endgame is to get similar functionality going on Spacemacs, but that takes more time and effort.  All in good time : -)01:02
tuxd3v:)01:02
rwpRemember that when you stare into the abyss too long that the abyss stares back.01:05
XenguyGreat line, sounds like Lovecraft 8 -D01:06
XenguyI (allegedly) turned of 'telemetry', FWIW01:07
Xenguy*off01:07
ELDIEGOHi everyone01:07
XenguyYou're right on time ELDIEGO01:07
ELDIEGO?01:07
XenguyGood timing, pay no attention to this man behind the curtain, please continue01:07
ELDIEGOOh ok01:08
Xenguy.oO( Naturally I must celebrate my nefarious success with a smoke )01:09
sgageThe 'abyss' quote does sound a bit Lovecraftian,01:11
sgageBut it's actually none other than Friedrich Nietzsche :-)01:13
sgage"He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster.01:19
sgage And if you gaze for long into an abyss, the abyss gazes also into you."01:19
ELDIEGOSo i am using Devuan testing (chimaera) and i ran into some problems with bluetooth. I installed bluez-obexd package and i couldn't start the obexd daemon because there is no service script compatible with openrc. I also extracted the .DEB package and i noticed there is only a service script compatible with systemd. As a workaround i managed to01:22
ELDIEGOstart that daemon at every boot with XFCE autostart feature to transfer files from one device to another and viceversa. If you can resolve this problem, it will be really appreciated :)01:22
Xenguysgage: Truly?  If so, sooooooo good!01:28
XenguyBeautiful, you made my evening01:29
sgageYes, it's Nietzsche. Those who dally with MS should pay heed :-)01:30
XenguyAye01:30
sgage:-)01:31
Xenguysgage: /join #devuan-offtopic and I'll tell you another real, not fictional, story about Nietzsche01:32
sgageI'm all ears - I'll see if they'll let me join...01:33
Xenguy Don't see you so far01:35
brufsmithred: Thanks for your help, but this seemed to much of a hassle to mess with the xorg.conf. I can buy a proper DVI to DVI cable for my monitor and it might work just fine02:38
gnarfacefsmithred: sounds like they pulled the sysvinit script from bluex-obexd too03:16
XenguyDoes Devuan need a tiger team of sysvinit script coders?03:27
XenguyVV  Sign up here03:27
fsmithredshit03:28
XenguyMy advice:  steal it from bsd03:28
Xenguyhah03:28
fsmithredor from an older version of the package03:28
XenguyYou sign up fsmithred , I'll sign up03:29
gnarfacei'm sure in most cases you can just copy forward the wheezy one with minor or noedits03:29
XenguyNo pressure = )03:29
gnarfaceminor or no edits*03:29
XenguyThat's good to know, sounds more doable03:29
fsmithredthere was no init script in the ascii version03:30
Xenguydang03:31
gnarfacehmm, it's no surprise to me that it might have been missing for a while.  i think obex has fallen out of favor03:31
gnarface(with cellphone OS vendors)03:31
gnarfaceit's been a couple generations since i've had a phone that supports it but i don't buy fancy phones either so i guess i'm not sure about that03:32
gnarfacebut it seemed to me like everything just gave up on it and supplanted the feature with usb drive mode03:33
Charionhello everybody13:25
Charionanyone had troubles installing Devuan ?13:26
IanJI had trouble migrating, but not installing.13:41

I_am_nobody777fsmithred: Hi , Missed your answer . Luckily  , the irc is publically archived . so , I read your reply . There is no  "access" option , I am on your experimental "uefi" minimal live iso . change in the su package , that explains it .17:35
I_am_nobody777Hi , After installing , I enabled the non-free to install intel microcode , but apt-get throws error ."Depends iucode-tool but it is not installable "  " E: unable to correct problems , you have held broken packages "  . I am using beowulf on a 64bit intel laptop and the apt version is 1.8.2.2 .17:58
masonArgh, and he's gone again.18:19
masonI_am_nobody777, if you see this in logs, note that it's often necessary to "apt update" or similar in live environments before the environments knows about all the relevant/available packages.18:19
fsmithredI_am_nobody777, I made the boot menu wrong on the uefi minimal live iso. At the boot menu, press 'e' to edit. Go down to the linux line and remove 'username=devuan' and add 'noautologin 4' then press ctrl-x to boot.20:21
* the-void says hello22:13
