DocScrutinizer05sorry I have to shut down and decommission the neo900.org server17:13
DocScrutinizer05can't afford it any longer17:15
enycDocScrutinizer05: web.archive.org back it all up for you?17:17
DocScrutinizer05I hope so17:17
DocScrutinizer05I'm still polling interested parties if they want to migrate git to a location of their choice17:18
enycDocScrutinizer05: web.archive.org has a button to archive page now  on request17:19
DocScrutinizer05maybe one of them wants to migrate the regular web content as well17:19
DocScrutinizer05enyc: feel welcome to initiate that. Holler if you need any support from server side17:25
bencohDocScrutinizer05: if you have a list of git / stuff to archive, I might be able to keep a copy of (at least part of) the stuff17:40
DocScrutinizer05bencoh: well, git has a web frontend. I'm not up to date on usage and content17:41
bencohas for the website itself, hosting a static version of it wouldn't hurt me, assuming you want to17:41
DocScrutinizer05I summoned dos1 :-) let's see what he thinks17:42
bencohalright17:42
DocScrutinizer05werner already about to take care about "his" git repos17:43
DocScrutinizer05just chatting with him17:43
bencoh(I won't host a dynamic version though, because this means running server-side code)17:43
DocScrutinizer05there's basically no server side code and dynamic content, except shop (obsolete and defunct anyway), the "blog" (also dysfunctional) and the git repos17:44
bencohthe main site is part of the blog?17:45
DocScrutinizer05the blog is part of the main page :-D17:45
bencohah, the ublog17:46
bencohalright, that means everything can be archived as static html pages/images17:46
bencohthe relevant part at least17:46
DocScrutinizer05then otoh the *whiole* website is git based which was the point where I lost track of how to implement changes17:47
DocScrutinizer05for an archive that is obsolete too17:48
DocScrutinizer05I gotta worry about stuff like email, internal backup etc pp17:49
bencohI can also keep a copy of the git repository if needed17:49
DocScrutinizer05let's wait for dos1, at least for a while. This is pending since a year now, a few more days won't kill me (I hope)17:50
atkDocScrutinizer05: how big is the git?17:51
DocScrutinizer05atk: good question, no idea17:52
atkalso, you could probably re-host the server on a £5/mo linode17:52
DocScrutinizer05there's website git and there's real software/project git repos17:52
DocScrutinizer05atk: I probably could if I could afford migrating and administrating it17:53
atkI will log in and have a look around, I would be up for migrating it for free if it doesn't look like a terribly big job17:54
DocScrutinizer05many thanks! :-)17:55
DocScrutinizer05dos1: ping18:02
* enyc meows18:02
DocScrutinizer05atk: I'd also be grateful for a reasonable cmdline oneliner to backup that system to one of my local disks, without too much cruft18:03
DocScrutinizer05a plain rsync without comnptression and file partitioning seems suboptimal18:04
DocScrutinizer05atk: oh, and http://neo900.files.dev-1.org/ is already about to go /dev/null18:05
DocScrutinizer05unless you're interested to keep it?18:06
bencohfiles.devuan.org doesn't sound too useful18:06
bencohis there anything there that is not a mirror of devuan?18:06
enyci wonder if  leste  devs would help archive,  may not be helpful, just a thought18:09
DocScrutinizer05bencoh: nope this is explicitly one of the official devuan mirrors18:09
bencohDocScrutinizer05: ah18:09
bencohI see18:09
DocScrutinizer05bencoh and atk - you'll negotiate something? let me know what's your idea once you agreed on sth please18:21
DocScrutinizer05enyc: leste isn't interested in nor related to neo90018:24
enycDocScrutinizer05: sure ok =)18:25
enyci just thouht might be worth an ask if hasn't been done18:25
DocScrutinizer05I'd have a hard time evaluating offers from there. I don't know the guys that are associated with leste, most of them. Others don't like me and I forgot who those were. Not worth the hassle18:27
DocScrutinizer05personally I'm absolutely happy with the archive-org snapshot plus git repos migrated, plus the rest that's _not_ publicly exposed simply getting a backup on one of my local disks18:30
DocScrutinizer05no changes on the website nor the git repos for almost 2 years, and I'm pretty sure it will stay this way18:31
DocScrutinizer05even stuff like https://web.archive.org/web/20200311084958/http://neo900.org/stuff/papers/hb.pdf works, so I think that's all that possibly is worth keeping18:33
DocScrutinizer05...for the public. Going to sort with users on this box how to proceed with their homedirs etc18:37
atkDocScrutinizer05: if it's a mirror of devuan then that probably gets a hell of a lot of traffic and it seems it would be costly to maintain, if you don't think you can sustain it I think it's probably best to let someone else do it / ask some educational institution to host it18:54
DocScrutinizer05atk: it's just one of a two or three dozen mirrors. It may vanish with no massive impact on anything. OTOH traffic is pretty low19:17
DocScrutinizer05https://devuan.org/get-devuan19:18
DocScrutinizer05traffic https://i.imgur.com/rcAZ025.png  https://i.imgur.com/uo2hzbL.png  https://i.imgur.com/935Wb2e.png19:43
DocScrutinizer05that's max 260GB/month19:44
DocScrutinizer05but, as I said, it's not mission critical in any way, it was just "because I can" without any additional cost and gaining some PR by the URL on https://devuan.org/get-devuan19:47
