Centurion_Dan | Long time coming, but I am now working from my office. | 01:00 |
Centurion_Dan | oops.. back... | 01:07 |
g4570n | Centurion_Dan: o/ | 01:08 |
golinux | Hello stranger! | 01:09 |
Centurion_Dan | finally got internet setup (temporary until I get my servers set up. | 01:13 |
Centurion_Dan | So... have I missed much going on? | 01:13 |
Centurion_Dan | I haven't really properly gone through my backlog of emails yet... | 01:14 |
mason | Centurion_Dan: We decided to just make everything easier and adopt systemd. | 01:14 |
mason | Less work, bigger community, all the usual arguments. | 01:14 |
mason | Plus, wow, socket activation! | 01:15 |
Centurion_Dan | mason: oh bugger ... that's inconvenient... | 01:15 |
mason | It was bound to happen. | 01:15 |
g4570n | Centurion_Dan: hi, you could see something about the problem with d-i, the kernel version in ascii needs to be updated | 01:16 |
Centurion_Dan | mason: oh well... I guess that means devuan == debian but with different release names... | 01:16 |
mason | Centurion_Dan: In other news, I'm polishing up a script-based pure-ZFS-root install for Devuan, and I hope to tackle proper teardown of LUKS when root's sitting atop it. | 01:16 |
mason | The big jump will be getting proper d-i support for laying out ZFS, but I've got a bunch of learning to do before even starting that. | 01:17 |
Centurion_Dan | g4570n: ok... that should only effect the mini iso installer. | 01:17 |
Centurion_Dan | mason: you'll be wanting to learn all about debconf then... | 01:18 |
mason | Centurion_Dan: Yes. | 01:18 |
Centurion_Dan | that will be fun..... | 01:18 |
Centurion_Dan | .... not... | 01:18 |
Centurion_Dan | :-p | 01:18 |
mason | I'm actually looking forward to all of it, even though I know it can be messy. | 01:18 |
mason | I do have a ton to learn. | 01:19 |
mason | bbiab | 01:22 |
mason | (Reading bedtime stories to the older two.) | 01:22 |
golinux | g4570n: We are working on a point release to address that | 01:28 |
g4570n | golinux: great | 01:35 |
g4570n | I'm seeing the new branches in the repo :) | 01:36 |
golinux | Yes, rrq has been busy, busy. Please help us by testing isos when he asks | 01:37 |
golinux | The point release will come before beowulf | 01:38 |
golinux | g4570n: this was added to your section in last weeks notes. Did you not see it? | 01:39 |
golinux | (rrq) Devuan has forked debian-installer; resides at https://git.devuan.org/devuan-packages/debian-installer it's now updated to 4.9.0-11 for the ascii 2.1 release | 01:39 |
g4570n | golinux: 👍 | 01:41 |
g4570n | yes, I saw it. But you have to regenerate the packages, I think there Jenkins intervenes | 01:41 |
mason | and back | 01:42 |
Evilham | Centurion_Dan added some short notes to the pad on things I noticed while doing sth, maybe you can clarify | 01:43 |
golinux | Of course . . . new isos on they way. Someone needs to adopt creating the arm and virtual images though. Any volunteers? | 01:43 |
onefang | Devuan adopted systemd? I sleep in one day and all hell breaks loose. Fire and brimstone coming down from the skies! Rivers and seas boiling! Forty years of darkness! Earthquakes, volcanoes... The dead rising from the grave! Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together... mass hysteria! | 05:02 |
* onefang calms down and eats some brekky. | 05:02
golinux | Either more sarcasm of onefang has no sense of humor before brekky | 05:03 |
golinux | of > or | 05:03 |
Unit193 | Who does? | 05:03 |
onefang | It's me, onefang, assume sarcasm, especially if you see Ghostbusters quotes. B-) | 05:04 |
golinux | Do not assume that those quotes are known to everyone. | 05:05 |
golinux | Some of us do live outside of popular culture | 05:05 |
Unit193 | Or pop culture from the 90s? | 05:06 |
golinux | Or pop culture ever | 05:06 |
onefang | Meh, I stopped paying attention to pop culture sometime last century. Just go with sarcasm, it was your first guess. | 05:07 |
* golinux pours more coffee for onefang | 05:08
Unit193 | https://packages.qa.debian.org/d/debootstrap/news/20190929T034854Z.html fancy. | 05:10 |
plasma41 | Unit193: Noice! | 05:36 |
mason | nice nie | 05:42 |
mason | nice* | 05:42 |
mason | Alright, I'm past due to become a pumpkin. | 06:10 |
fsmithred | have good dreams | 06:10 |
LeePen | Centurion_Dan: Hi. Welcome back. | 08:18 |
LeePen | There is also the oom failing arm64 builds on Jenkins. | 08:19 |
LeePen | I am waiting to build consolekit, xfce4-session and tasksel until that is working. | 08:20 |
LeePen | Thanks. | 08:20 |
onefang | I'm missing some info for my mirror checker. I can't see a way of finding out "what packages have been changed recently". None of the metadata files have any time info, only version info. "Is this packages updated time more recent than the last time I checked" would be easy. "Is this package version more recent than the package version of the last time I checked" is harder and fragile. Fragile coz | 08:28 |
onefang | I've been vatching the versioning problems already mentioned here. Harder coz I have to keep around all the version numbers from last time I checked, instead of just the time of the last check, and new packages will fall through unless I track all of them. | 08:28 |
onefang | I'm trying to be a bit agnostic about what few packages to check each time, defaulting to "randomly pick a small one if I have to download it to run the checks". | 08:29 |
onefang | Also, maybe using "If-Modified" headers might help keep bandwidth down, IF I had time info to check. | 08:30 |
rrq | sniff the pool? | 08:33 |
rrq | s | 08:34 |
onefang | That'll work if I'm running the checker script on pkgmaster, then I can find out when a package gets updated. I need a solution that works elsewhere. | 08:37 |
onefang | Or just document "This can't be done.". | 08:38 |
onefang | I get an email when my mirror runs rsync and finds out there is new stuff to update. I could sniff that, except that then I have to designate my server as one more source of truth, as well as pkgmaster. That wont work so well if I fuck up something. | 08:41 |
onefang | And if I fuck up, I want the mirror checker script to tell me. B-) | 08:42 |
rrq | curl -I 'http://pkgmaster.devuan.org/devuan/pool/main/d/debootstrap/debootstrap-udeb_1.0.110%2Bdevuan1_all.udeb' | 08:43 |
onefang | How does that help me pick "packages that have changed in the last week", unless I do that to ALL the packages, which is an excessive use of bandwidth I'm trying to avoid by only checking packages that have changed in the last week? | 08:46 |
rrq | mmm a little bit exessive, yes | 08:47 |
rrq | you download the Packages files I suppose .. how about just diffing them (maybe after sorting) and pick Filename: changes ? | 08:49 |
rrq | that is, you'll need to keep the previous of course | 08:50 |
onefang | That's the hard and fragile method I mentioned. | 08:50 |
rrq | yeah .. not enough chocolate here .. I'll go raiding .. | 08:52 |
onefang | Though I guess "package X was replaced by an older version on pkgmaster" isn't my problem to detect. So a bit less fragile than I thought. | 08:53 |
rrq | there's also those "by-hash" files, which presents dates for the hashes for the packages | 08:56 |
rrq | no thats a dir hmm | 08:56 |
rrq | and each file is a gzip of the Packages file (as of the date resumably) | 09:00 |
onefang | I'm not seeing any "by-hash" files on my mirror. | 09:01 |
rrq | eg http://pkgmaster.devuan.org/devuan/dists/beowulf/main/binary-amd64/by-hash/MD5Sum | 09:01 |
onefang | Ah I do have those. | 09:02 |
rrq | not sure how useful those are but varying sizes a lot so it can't be just "Packages" | 09:03 |
onefang | devuan/dists/ascii/main/binary-all/Packages.new might be useful. | 09:05 |
onefang | Except I'm not seeing any of those in beowulf. lol | 09:06 |
onefang | I think those are only in ASCII. | 09:08 |
rrq | my exampl was in the beowulf tree | 09:08 |
onefang | Packages.new is only in ASCII as far as I can tell. | 09:09 |
onefang | I need to go grocery shopping. Back soon. | 09:11 |
onefang | Sorted! B-) | 10:18 |
onefang | Keep the top level InRelease files from pkgmaster around. Do an if-modified check on them from pkgmaster. If they changed, download the new one, diff against the old one, now we have "what Packages files changed since last time". | 10:18 |
onefang | Keep the Packages files from pkgmaster around. Download the new ones from pkgmaster, diff against the old ones, now we have "what packages changed since last time". | 10:18 |
onefang | Do if-modified check on the mirrors for the changed InRelease and Packages files. If they have been updated, then do more update checks on updated packages. If not, mark them as out of date. | 10:18 |
onefang | Saves some bandwidth, gets the job done, but need to keep history around locally, which I've not had to do yet. | 10:19 |
jaromil | heyy | 21:11 |
jaromil | a lot happened today | 21:11 |
jaromil | i'll be at the meeting to explain | 21:11 |
jaromil | a lot is still happening, actually. all good | 21:11 |
jaromil | rrq: if u worry for a machine downtime, see the pad, there was a MOBO failure | 21:11 |
jaromil | see you all at the meeting | 21:12 |
mason | jaromil: Cool, looking forward to it. | 21:14 |
mason | fsmithred, Centurion_Dan, golinux: If something just went by in #devuan I missed it, and I appear to still have a ban there. If at some point we could address that I'd be grateful! I suspect jaromil would be okay with that. | 23:13 |
Evilham | mason: http://maemo.cloud-7.de/irclogs/freenode/_devuan/latest.log.html | 23:15 |
mason | Oh, useful. Thank you. | 23:15 |
mason | No worries about #devuan. If I do get back into it I'll be happy to provide support, but there's no rush. I seem to be able to be useful without it thus far. | 23:20 |
jaromil | mason: try now | 23:21 |
jaromil | i think i managed | 23:21 |
mason | kk | 23:21 |
