Guest56Hi. Can you tell me please what are the commandline parameters to boot the netinstaller from usb or cd?10:32
Guest56I know that I first have to set the root with ">set root=usb0" for example10:33
Guest56Then set the kernel with the linux command, but there is no longer an install directory or a vmlinuz file like in the past...10:33
gnarfaceGuest56: you shouldn't have to do any of that. it should just boot, what are you trying to do?10:38
gnarfaceare you trying to use the grub menu instead of just changing your system boot order?10:40
gnarfaceplease tell me you're not trying to use unetbootin like it's 1996 or something10:43
gnarfacethese are hybrid iso images, they'll boot by default on usb or cd with no editing10:43
gnarfacejust change your motherboard's boot order or bring up the manual boot device selection menu. it will definitely have one or both of those features.10:44
Guest56gnarface I use libreboot and the automatic boot doesn't work. I booted via commandline in the past (chimaera) but now things seem to have changed.10:49
Guest56#libreboot knows about this issue10:50
gnarfacehmm, i can't imagine what would have changed about the netinstall disk between chimaera and daedalus that is affecting your grub syntax, but i do know grub names disks like this: (hd0)10:51
gnarfacenot this: usb010:51
gnarfaceand it has tab completion, though it's a bit slow10:52
Guest56Yes disk names you can get with ls10:52
Guest56But setting the kernel doesn't work, because there is no vmlinuz file10:52
Guest56Normally it worked like that: linux /someinstallfolder/vmlinuz maybe_some_parameters_here10:54
gnarfacei would think it's gotta be in there somewhere, but someone around here knows for sure10:58
gnarfacejust stick around10:58
gnarfacehmm, i wonder if you run update-grub with it mounted if it'll just get added to the menu automatically10:59
Guest56gnarface I already looked for the vmlinuz file before, but it is nowhere: https://paste.debian.net/hidden/75fd5618/11:04
Guest56*nowhere11:05
Guest56Maybe it is now just:11:05
Guest56boot/isolinux/linux11:06
Guest56?11:06
rrqyes, the kernel is /boot/isolinux/linux and its initrd is /boot/isolinux/initrd.gz11:06
Guest56rrq cool thank you! :) I will try that now.11:08
rrqthe installer will also need to mount the media, a few steps into the process11:12
Guest912Hi guys. deb.devuan.org is not reachable. I just getting infinity connecting. It doesn't pinging.13:11
spine-o-saurusset your gateway or dns server then13:19
onefangdeb.devuan.org is a DNS round robin of several servers, so you would be getting a random server.  Got an IP address for the one not connecting?13:20
onefangAnd all of them are passing my monitoring script at the moment.13:20
gnarfaceGuest912: solve the connection issue? nobody else could reproduce...16:12
Guest912After changing dns it worked. Thank you much!16:12
gnarfacecool, no problem16:12
Guest56TheRealOngnarface rrq I installed Devuan daedalus successfully thank you for your kind help! :)17:00
gnarfacewelcome aboard17:01
Guest56TheRealOnoh and never change the name of an encrypted volume group17:02
Guest56TheRealOnlol17:02
al1r4dhmm17:02
Guest56TheRealOnI just copied my old installation over usb and I used the same name for both volume groups, so it said that it is not possible to use two volume groups with the same name, even if both on diferent devices17:04
Guest56TheRealOnI changed the name of the vg on the new installation so I could mount the old one. I did my setup, install my packages etc. and installed two more kernels (one updated stock and one from linux-libre). After reboot it failed to find the volume group. I changed th vg name again via a live system and was suprised, that the two new kernels couldn't17:08
Guest56TheRealOnstill find the volume group, but the old one could. So I booted with the old one, uninstalled the two new ones, reboot, and install them again and now they can find the vg too. Weird. ^^17:08
Guest9349Hi again. How can i download devuan testing ?21:30
debdogGuest9349: you can't. one has to install the latest stable then switch that to testing21:35
golinuxGuest9349: Our testing release will be named Excalibur but I'm not seeing any isos yet21:35
fsmithredGuest9349, there are no isos for Excalibur yet. Do a minimal install of Daedalus and upgrade it.21:35
Guest9349thanks !21:35
Guest9349i will try Daedalus . As i see is almost the previous testing.21:36
golinuxYes, was just recently released.21:36
fsmithredDon't be fooled by that. It's mostly debian, so it's been stable in practice for months.21:37
Guest9349is the runit scripts mentioned in that post in Daedalus ?  https://dev1galaxy.org/viewtopic.php?pid=41084#p4108421:37
fsmithredif that post is talking about a package called runit-services, then I assume it is there.21:38
fsmithredoh21:38
fsmithredI assume it's in testing/excalibur. I know runit-services is in daedalus.21:39
fsmithredI think I have a VM with that installed.21:40
Guest9349ok. i guess then i will try testing.21:44
Guest9349thanks21:44
fsmithredgood luck. I'm sure a lot of stuff isn't ready.21:45
Guest9349Daedalus release notes say :'Rootless startx uses libseat1' I will try to start without a display server and package by package see how that works. I guess it mean seat management without elogind or consolekit..22:01
Guest9349and the 'Wayland GUI without elogind' seems to promise tha same for wayland. (i will try sway). But why it doesnt say also start X server without elogind.. strange22:03
Guest9349in a fresh Daedalus installation without graphical enviroment i try to install sway it pulls elogind23:31
Guest9349sorry.. i found a relative thread in the forum.. i have a look there.. https://dev1galaxy.org/viewtopic.php?id=590923:33
Guest9349'sudo apt-get  install -s elogind- sway seatd' indeed wont pull elogind but dummy-logind23:53
