radvPTI16:07
radvI have a pine phone.  I bought it because I have an N900 and wanted a new device to run maemo.  I have never been able to boot maemo (or anything) from a MicroSD card in the pine phone.  any thought would be useful.16:07
radvthe pine phoe forums have not been useful.16:08
humpelstilzchen[How did you install the pinephone distributions on the SD?16:09
radvi tried using dd to create the image, but the device doesnt recognize the sd card at all.  eventually i used balenaEtcher from a pc runnning windows 1116:14
radvi'm fairly sure it's a device hardware problem, not a problem with the maemo image...still thought someone here might be able to put me on some useful path16:16
humpelstilzchen[Maybe try a different sd card?16:17
radvi have16:18
humpelstilzchen[ok, what exact dd command have you used?16:19
radvmost reciently I did not use any because the device doesn't know there's a cardin the slot.16:20
radvlsblk only gives me results for he emmc16:21
buZzradv: hey, got it working yet? :D17:56
buZzradv: maybe your dipswitches inside the pinephone have the SD slot disabled? not sure if thats possible17:57
buZzbut some of those dipswitches dis/enable specific hardware17:57
buZzradv: lsblk will -always- just list devices it sees :P if there's no card (or no valid partition!!) on the device, it wont be visible in lsblk17:58
buZztry a ls /dev/mmc* to see if mmc0(?) is the only device it sees (regardless of partitions, those would be mmc0p1 etc)17:59
radvls /dev/mmc* shows only the mmcblk2 i.e. the emmc storage18:13
radvthis thing abut dipswitches is new information18:14
bencohyou can also check /sys/bus/mmc/devices/18:15
bencohand find /sys/devices -iname mmc_host18:16
buZzradv: there are dipswitches under the battery lid18:18
buZzhttps://wiki.pine64.org/images/e/e1/Pinephone_pogo.png , doesnt seem to toggle SD slot though18:19
radvoh, those...i dont think theres on for the microsd card.18:19
buZzradv: did you read dmesg? it might tell you about if it saw any other mmc device18:19
buZzradv: wouldnt hurt to confirm they are all on , though ;)18:19
radvtrue18:19
radvls /sys/bus/mmc/devices returns mmc1:0001 and mmc2:000118:22
buZzso, it does see it18:22
buZzradv: its possible that whatever kernel you are currently running just lacks support for SD cards ;)18:23
buZziirc i did need to flash something onto the pinephone before i could boot18:23
radvhum.  i'm skeptical18:23
radveven so wouldnt it read the sdcard first oon startup?18:24
buZzonly if written correctly18:24
radvhum18:24
radvokay18:24
buZzif you write the .img file to a -partition- , it wont work ;)18:24
radvwell this is something18:24
buZz> Do not use partition numbers, or it won't boot. For example: sdd, not sdds1 or sddp1; mmcblk0, not mmcblk0p1. In most cases with SD cards, your computer might read the SD card as mmcblk0 or something similar.18:25
buZzfrom https://leste.maemo.org/PinePhone#Installation18:25
radvyeah i know that.18:25
buZzalright, you didnt answer the dd command question :P18:25
radvi guess i shuld check with the Arch Linux folks about18:26
buZzwhy? arch doesnt even support ARM18:26
radvthats what i have running right now18:26
buZzyou mean alarm? thats not arch, its a forked distro18:26
buZzby 1 person mostly18:27
buZzwriting the SD card is something you do on a different machine though, usually18:27
radvwhich doesnt reognize the card with lsblk or fdisk but shows it in the /sys/bus/mmc/devices file18:27
radvyeah, i mean alarm18:27
buZzi would just assume alarm very iffy, its a mess of a distro18:28
buZzwhy cant you use a normal PC to write the SD card?18:28
radvi did...i mean one with windows18:31
radvi used balenaEtcher18:32
radvthat wouldnt cause the problem, would it?18:32
buZzi never had any success with etcher or windows18:34
radvmaybe etchers creating a partition a few blocks away from what the device can read...18:38
buZzmaybe etcher is a website ;)18:39
radvi guess ive got to figure out how to write to the sd card using the pine phone and a archlike system that cant see the card18:40
buZzwhat does dmesg say when you insert a SD card -while booted- on the pinephone with alarm?18:40
radvi'd downloaded some balenaetcher softwware18:41
radvgeesh my typings ugly with this keyboard18:41
radv...hang on...18:41
radvwell while the card is in, withoutremoving and reinserting...its saying "no support for cards volts" about something18:43
radvsunxi mmc 1c0f000.mmc18:44
radvit's refrencing an SDIO card18:45
radvbattery fell out18:50
radvi do not get the voltage error when the card is not in the slot18:53
radvgrumble...now the keyboards not working...ill be back later.  thanks for working with me18:56
buZzsounds like the kernel isnt setting up voltages correctly18:56
radvi can't see if there've been any comments here in he last hour.19:55
radvother then this Arch fork I'm using now I had some problems with the microsd card reader when I had Manjaro on the device, but I had may other problems with that system.20:00
buZz18:56:42 < buZz> sounds like the kernel isnt setting up voltages correctly20:04
buZzradv: try a external USB sdcard thingy then?20:04
radvI'd try installing Maemo Leste on the emmc, but on the wiki for the pine phone, under installation I'm reading "Note: currently not working"20:05
radvyeah, ive thought about the external usb, but it makes the device less portable20:06
buZzradv: you need it a single time20:10
buZzjust to make the SD card20:10
buZzthe -kernel- sets up voltages for devices20:10
buZzseemingly the kernel that alarm ships for PP is crap and doesnt do it correctly20:10
Wizzupalarm = arch arm?20:39
Wizzupuvos: so I have the module blacklisted and still get the same problem21:21
sunshavi radv: sunxi-mmc 1c0f000.mmc: send stop command failed?21:51
radvalarm ... Arch Linux ARM22:05
radvim sorry sunshavi i'm not sure what your suggesting.  there are enorous holes in my tech. knowledge.22:07
radv"22:17
radv[  209.734402] sunxi-mmc 1c0f000.mmc: no support for card's volts22:17
radv[  209.734469] mmc0: error -22 whilst initialising SDIO card"22:17
radvit repeats many times22:17
sicelotaking my SIM out of D4 for the first time in almost two months ... has worked quite well really22:42
siceloonly removing it temporarily because (1) i need to do some USSD stuff, and (2) i need to use the data package on my android phone22:42
