systemdlete | Is the debian-installer preseeding the best approach for automated installation (aside from fai, which is too complex for my home environment)? Or is there a better tool these days? | 07:45 |

systemdlete | preseeding looks fairly straightforward, but the dox for it seem to be very old, so I was thinking maybe there have been some innovations since then. | 07:46 |
systemdlete | thanks | 07:46 |
bgstack15 | systemdlete: I use preseed for VM automatic installation | 16:14 |
bgstack15 | It works great. | 16:14 |
bgstack15 | Never tried preseed outside of libvirt/qemu though | 16:16 |
systemdlete | thank you, bgstack15. Appreciate your feedback. The more I look into debian-install preseed, the more I like it. I think it will be interesting to try it. | 23:21 |
systemdlete | I know there are probably a myriad of ways to use the mechanism. I am thinking of creating a virtual disk in addition to the one(s) I would be installing to, and stage the whole thing there. When I boot the ISO to install, I could jump out to a console and mount the virtual disk, and then proceed with the automated install. Something like that, rather than having to gnerate a custom install image or the like. | 23:36 |
systemdlete | But maybe that is less preferable. | 23:37 |
systemdlete | My approach would be something akin to using a physical thumb drive to store the d-i configuration file. | 23:38 |
